Hard Work is passé!!!

A 10 step guide to become a smart working dude from a hard working dolt.

1. Get a life - Having an active social / romantic life will make you appear as a dude in the eyes of your co-workers will give you a plenty of occasions of showing prior commitments other than project (movies, dates, lunches, dinners, discs etc etc etc), garner sympathy from all and you will be pardoned because no one would have the heart to ask you to make your GF wait.
2. Be well informed, impress boss – The person who sits hours on comp fixing bugs, isn’t that impressive. While in office make use of net. Become well informed and aware, impress boss with anecdotes from top biggies and revenue figures.
3. Remember the project can be completed with or without you – The time and tide wait for none. Neither do the projects. They will end on the given date no matter whether you were a part. Always prefer the without.
4. Never be in an answering position & Ensure none of the deliveries are your responsibility - Keep yourself separate from all active communication threads with onsite coordinators, clients, Project leads etc. Always remember heavy lies the head which has the responsibility of delivery on its shoulder. A smart worker finishes by 5 and leaves. Deliveries are for other people.
5. Never be the person who has to Integrate - Never be in a position where you have to wait for others to finish coding. You should be the independent worker. Finish your task and leave. Integration is for other people.
6. Always complete your work on the last day – You should always complete within time, but just within time. Never too early nor too late. If you finish on the last day no one will question the quality. Everyone will be glad you finished and any bugs produced will be the responsibility of the person who delivers the code.
7. Be in sync with boss' schedule – If boss is out of town yippee day to work from home. You are answerable to none except your immediate boss. Always be present in his presence but if you are sure he’s out of town. Well, the smart worker can take the GF to lunch date.
8. Get a cell connection which is not reachable – Always be unreachable. People would get fed up trying to call you and resolve the issues on their own.
9. Work less, be pleasant - If you work more you will be under pressure, if you are under pressure you will be tense, irritable, sarcastic maybe. Will always end up making enemies. Always work less, be cheerful and popular.
10. Never work more than asked – Most Important!! Don’t start working till 11^th hour. It takes only an hour to actually finish whatever amount of work maybe. So don’t start working early, because you might finish early and PL might allocate you other tasks. If you have something on your plate always, no will ask you to take up more.If you take up more, you won’t be able to finish in 8 hours. You would stay back and make bugs and then would stay even longer to fix them. Remember, the person who writes the largest amount of code creates largest amount of bugs.
